Reader side

Read in the Reader

The Reader is where you read a Lekty'Book: text, audio, quizzes, exercises and an AI tutor, with a glass icon bar on the right side. Everything is designed for comfort, including for people with dyslexia or who read at night.

Navigate with the table of contentsNew

The table of contents lists the numbered "Chapters" and, under "In this chapter", clickable headings that take you straight to the right section. A progress bar at the top shows how far along you are. At the bottom of each chapter, two buttons take you to the previous and next chapter, even in focus mode.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Contents" icon
  1. Open a Lekty'Book from "My library".
  2. Click the contents icon in the right bar: the "Contents" panel opens.
  3. Click a chapter to open it, or click a heading under "In this chapter" to jump to it.
  4. At the bottom of the chapter, click the title of the next chapter (with the → arrow) or the previous one (with the ← arrow).

Pick up where you left off, on any device

Your reading position is saved to your account, so you pick up at the right chapter on your phone, tablet or computer. The "Continue reading" box shows the last chapter you read and the percentage you've already read.

Where: My library › "Continue reading"
  1. Open "My library".
  2. In the "Continue reading" box, click "Continue →".
  3. Or, on a card, click "Continue reading →".

Adjust how the text looks

Use the sliders to set text size, line spacing, text width and letter spacing. Your settings stay on your device and apply as soon as you open a chapter, with no flicker.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Appearance" icon (AA)
  1. Click the "Appearance" icon (AA) in the right bar.
  2. Adjust "Text size", "Line spacing", "Text width" and "Letter spacing".
  3. To reset a single setting, click the small back arrow that appears next to its value.
  4. To reset everything, click the circular arrow at the top of the panel ("Reset all").

OpenDyslexic and bionic reading

Two accessibility switches: the OpenDyslexic font, designed for dyslexia, and "Bionic reading", which highlights the start of each word to guide your eye.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Appearance" › "Accessibility"
  1. Click the "Appearance" icon (AA).
  2. Scroll down to "Accessibility".
  3. Turn on "Bionic reading" or "OpenDyslexic" ("Dyslexia-friendly font").
  4. Shortcut: the "Dys" button in the right bar turns on OpenDyslexic directly.

A big advantage over PDF: the same Lekty'Book adapts to every reader, with nothing to install.

Night modeNew

One click on the moon turns on true night mode: black background, white text. That's the default. If you prefer, you can choose from three other moods: "soft" (background only), "immersive" (background and content) and "dark" (a dark theme), with an "Intensity" slider.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Night mode" moon icon
  1. Click the moon in the right bar: night mode turns on (black background, white text) and the "Night mode" panel opens.
  2. Under "Mood", keep "night" or choose "soft", "immersive" or "dark".
  3. With "soft", "immersive" or "dark", use the slider to set the "Intensity", from "Soft" to "Dark".
  4. To turn night mode off, click the moon again.

Focus modeNew

The Lektify bar and the tools disappear, so you can read immersively with no distractions. The previous and next chapter buttons stay visible at the bottom of the chapter.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Focus mode" button
  1. Click the "Focus mode" button at the bottom of the right bar.
  2. Read: only the Lekty'Book stays on screen. At the bottom of the chapter, you can still move on to the next one.
  3. To exit, press Esc, move your mouse to the top of the screen, or click the small icon at the bottom of the screen.

Sidebar on the left or right

The toolbar is on the right by default. Everyone can put it on whichever side suits them.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › bottom of the toolbar
  1. Open a chapter in the Reader.
  2. At the bottom of the bar, find the button with two arrows (on hover: "Move the bar, left/right").
  3. Click it: the bar switches to the other side.

Read with ambient sounds

Ten ambient sounds to help you focus, in two groups: "Generative sounds" (white, pink and brown noise) and "Natural sounds" (rain, café, forest, birds, river, waves, fireplace), with volume control.

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Ambient sounds" icon
  1. Click the "Ambient sounds" icon (the rain cloud).
  2. Pick a sound, for example "Gentle rain" or "Café".
  3. Adjust the "Volume".

Listen to the chapter

When the creator has generated the narration, you can listen to each chapter, with 7 speeds from 0.5× to 2×. The panel shows "AI narration · Chapter". If there's no audio, the icon's tooltip tells you: "the author of this Lekty'Book hasn't turned on narration yet".

Where: Reader › an open chapter › right bar › "Audio" icon
  1. Click the "Audio" icon in the right bar.
  2. Click the play button ("Listen to this chapter").
  3. Use the slider to set the "Speed" ("Normal" = 1×).
  4. Click the button again to « Pause ».

Great to show off: you go from reading to listening without leaving the Lekty'Book.

Take a chapter quizNew

The creator places each quiz in the page (you answer right in the text) or in the « Quiz » panel (a button in the text opens it). There are four question types: one right answer, several right answers, true or false, and reflection (no right answer, you pick what fits you best). Answers can be images, laid out in a balanced grid. You can listen to the questions. Your answers are saved and the panel shows the chapter score.

Where: In the text, or Reader › right sidebar › « Quiz » icon
  1. Answer the quiz in the text, or click « Quiz · X questions · Answer » to open it in the panel.
  2. Pick your answer (or answers), then click « Submit ».
  3. Read the feedback (« Correct. » or « Not quite. »), then click « Next question ».
  4. At the end, read your result (« Quiz complete: … ») or click « Start over ».
  5. In the « Quiz » panel, find the « Chapter score » and, with « Go to quiz », the quizzes placed in the page.

Exercises: write, check, reveal

The creator can add exercises to the text: a « Your turn to write » field (private answer, still there when you come back), checklists to tick, reveals, flip cards (question on the front, answer on the back, sometimes created by the creator's AI) and a before/after comparison slider. Your answers and checked boxes are saved.

Where: In the chapter text
  1. In a « Your turn to write » field, type your answer: it saves automatically (« saved »).
  2. Check the boxes in a checklist: they stay checked.
  3. On a reveal, click « Click to reveal → ».
  4. On a card, click to flip it (« Click to flip the card »). On a before/after, drag to compare (« Drag to compare »).

Attached files and videos

Files added by the creator can be downloaded (only by people who have access). YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion videos only load with your permission, to protect your privacy.

Where: In the chapter text
  1. On a file, click « ⬇ Download ».
  2. On a video, click « Load video ».
  3. Check « Always load external videos » if you don't want to be asked again.

Creator call-to-action buttonsNew

The creator can place a button in their text: linking to another of their Lekty'Books, their storefront, the subscription, or another website. If the link leads outside Lektify, the site name is shown under the button and a message warns you before you leave.

Where: In the chapter text
  1. Click the button placed by the creator.
  2. If it leads to another site, read the « You're leaving Lektify » message.
  3. Click « Continue » to open the site in a new tab, or « Stay ».

Your Lekty'Book stays open in its tab, so you don't lose your page.

A Lekty'Book in its creator's colorsNew

Each Lekty'Book can have its own look: a background color or image, a main color and fonts chosen by the creator. The Lekty'Book title, the progress bar and the right sidebar use these colors. If the creator hasn't set anything, you'll see the Lektify colors.

Where: Reader › an open chapter
  1. Open a chapter in the Reader.
  2. Look at the background, the fonts and the title color: that's the creator's look.
  3. Your own settings (text size, night mode, OpenDyslexic) always take priority, for your comfort.

Share a quote as an image

Select a passage and Lektify turns it into a beautiful card in the creator's colors, with a link to the Lekty'Book. Nice for the reader, and free visibility for the creator.

Where: Reader › select a passage › « Create a card »
  1. Select a passage with your mouse or finger.
  2. Click « Create a card ».
  3. Choose « Post 4:5 », « Story 9:16 » or « Square 1:1 ».
  4. Click « Share » or « Download ».

Every shared quote spreads the word about the Lekty'Book: it's built-in word of mouth.

Subscription banners

If a payment fails, a coral banner lets you know (you keep access during a grace period). If the subscription is canceled, a teal banner reminds you of the end date and offers to resume it.

Where: At the top of the Reader (subscription Lekty'Book)
  1. Open a Lekty'Book you're subscribed to.
  2. If you see « Payment pending », click « Update my payment ».
  3. If you see « Your subscription ends on… », click « Resume my subscription » to keep it.

Report while reading

The report button is also at the bottom of every chapter (it's hidden in focus mode).

Where: Reader › bottom of the chapter › « Report this Lekty'Book »
  1. Scroll to the bottom of the chapter.
  2. Click « Report this Lekty'Book ».
  3. Choose a reason, then click « Send report ».

Adjust the glass intensityNew

The Reader's right sidebar is made of brushed glass, in the Lekty'Book's colors. Each reader can set the glass transparency to their liking, from transparent to opaque.

Where: Reader › right sidebar › « Appearance » icon (AA) › « Glass intensity »
  1. In a chapter, click the « Appearance » icon (AA) in the right sidebar.
  2. Just below « Text size », drag « Glass intensity » toward « Transparent » or « Opaque ».
  3. The small back arrow next to the percentage resets to the default (it only shows up if you've changed the setting).

The setting is stored in your browser and applies as soon as the page opens.
